Metropol Hotel

Metropol Hotel in Moscow

The Metropol Hotel has probably the most colorful history among Moscow's hotels, and is certainly the most elegant. The Metropol's 365 guest rooms include 70 suites, located in a stunning Art Nouveau building built at the instigation of art patron Savva Mamontov. Rooms combine mod cons such as satellite television and modem sockets for Internet connections with old-style luxury, while the hotel's three restaurants serve mainly Russian and European cuisine. Known as the 20th-century Tower of Babel when it opened, the Metropol is about as central as you can get in Moscow, right opposite the Bolshoi Theatre and a stone's throw from Red Square. Film buffs take note: The Metropol featured in David Lean's film version of Boris Pasternak's classic novel Dr. Zhivago.
