The State Kremlin Palace

The State Kremlin Palace in Moscow Kremlin In 1961, building began opposite the Arsenal on what was initially known as the Palace of Congresses. The construction of this vast building caused the destruction of a monument from the early 19th century, and damage to the Armory and other historical buildings. This monolithic box with its abundance of glass piers clashes markedly with the general style of the Kremlin's structures. The building sinks 17 meters into the earth, and contains over 700 apartments, all with different functions. The vast, 6,000-seat auditorium was originally used to hold the congresses of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.

After 1992, the building was renamed the State Kremlin Palace, and now hosts large social forums, theatrical performances, New Year's shows for children and student balls.
